Hail has once again pelted parts of metro Atlanta, causing damage to roofs and other property. Homeowners need to be wary of roofers who come by knocking on doors unsolicited. If you are concerned your roof has been damaged by hail, don’t file an insurance claim until you have called a local, reputable, roofer for thier opinion. A roofer who knocks on your door, generally is hunting for damage. A roofer who you invite to your house, has less of an agenda, and is looking out for your best interests, not those of thier business. Dr. Roof has always given its honest opinion. If we think you have hail damage, we will tell you. If we think you don’t have hail damage, then we will tell you that too! Amazing, we tell you our professional opinion, even if it means we will not be replacing your roof. We care about you, because we are local, and have been repairing and replacing roofs in Atlanta for 24+ years. We want to earn your trust and business, not invent fake damage to make you and your insurance company buy a roof before its needed. If you want our professional, unbiased opinion, call us at 770-552-7663. We look forward to earning your business.

It’s a dreary day in Atlanta today, with rain on and off for most of the day. Many people wonder if their roof is leaking on days like this, even if there is no apparent interior damage. Roof leaks may become apparent right away, or in a few days, as the water penetrates the walls and ceilings of a home. Sometimes they may never make it into the house, causing rot and damage to the roof decking. You should make it a habit to check your attic on a routine basis to inspect the roof decking for any visible rot or damage which may indicate a slow, but damaging leak. Maybe when you change the batteries in your smoke detector, or when you change the filter on your furnace. Checking regularly can prevent a small leak from becoming something worse, and save you money on repairs! If you notice something that concerns you, give Dr. Roof a call for your free estimate. Call us 24 hours a day at 770-552-7663.

I received a call today from a customer struggling to choose a shingle color for their new roof. With so many styles and colors on the market today, it can certainly be a daunting task making a color choice! An additional feature to seriously consider in the selection process is the energy efficiency of the shingle. If you are looking for ways to save energy in your home (and take advantage of the energy tax rebate!) be sure to look at colors which have the energy star rating label. In the GAF shingle line this includes the Timberline Natural Shadow Arctic White, all Timberline Cool Series colors, Timberline High Definition White and the Royal Sovereign White shingle. As summer approaches, it may be worth considering the positive impact an energy star rated shingle may have on your home. Stay cool!

Award reflects businesses’ consistently high level of customer service

Dr. Roof Atlanta, Inc. has been awarded the prestigious 2011 Angie’s List Super Service Award, an honor bestowed annually on approximately 5 percent of all the businesses rated on the nation’s leading provider of consumer reviews on local service and health providers.

Dr. Roof Atlanta, Inc. is a full service roofing and siding contractor serving North Metro Atlanta since 1988.

“Only a fraction of the businesses rated on Angie’s List can claim the sterling service record of being a Super Service Award winner because we set a high bar,” said Angie’s List Founder Angie Hicks. “The fact that Dr. Roof Atlanta, Inc. can claim Super Service Award status speaks volumes about its dedication to consumers.”

Angie’s List Super Service Award winners have met strict eligibility requirements including earning a minimum number of reports, an exemplary rating from their clients and abiding by Angie’s List operational guidelines.

Ratings are updated daily on Angie’s List, but members can find the 2011 Super Service Award logo next to business names in search results on AngiesList.com.

The heat in Atlanta has been brutal this summer. Your attic is certainly hotter than your house, as your air conditioner struggles to keep the house cool. But keeping the air in your attic moving is just as important to keeping your home cool. While a healthy attic does not need to be “cool” for a human to live in, it needs fresh air to prevent mildew buildup and excessive heat. Dr. Roof offers ridge vents, solar powered attic fans, and electric powered attic fans to help ease the pain in the attic. Call 770-552-7663 for your free estimate to improve your attic’s ventilation in the hot summer!

We usually don’t have to contend with a lot of harsh winter weather here in theSouth. Leave it to Mother Nature to throw a wrench into that plan with a whoppingsnowstorm that has adults wiping out the grocery stores and kids rejoicing at areaschool closings, scurrying to create make-shift sleds to enjoy the onslaught of thesnow and ice.

Aside from the general preparedness you go through, there are a few things youshould be aware of concerning your home’s structure and how it responds to ice, sleet, and snow. We all know to check for damage when we’ve had hail, but Dr. Roofhas some important tips for you when it comes to ice and snow storms as well.

Ice buildup on your roof’s edges can lead to “ice damming,” which can allow water(specifically the drippings from melted snow or ice) to enter your home. To createa visual for you—have you ever left a bottle in the freezer too long and learned thehard way that expanding ice will burst out of its container? The same is true forsnow and ice on your roof. It can melt, drip down, and then freeze and expand whenthe temps dip, creating an “ice dam” that backs ice up and under parts of your roof. This expansion upward and underneath your shingles and its sheer force can ripapart portions of your roof that haven’t been properly installed or sealed. It can alsoallow water to find a way into your home through a route that traditional rainwaterdoesn’t travel.

The average homeowner seldom checks the attic for damage after a storm, therefore, if water or condensation is present, if often goes undetected until itescalates into a larger problem. Also, if you observe icicles hanging from your roof, there is a strong chance your attic has a problem with condensation.

Our crews are on alert and will work hard to respond to your repair requests in atimely and efficient manner during this storm and always. What’s more, you cancount on Dr. Roof to install or repair your roof in such a way that you’ll be less likelyto contend with future problems.

How is your roof holding up this winter? What can we do for you? Are you waveringbetween replacing or repairing your roof? Our professionals can help you make aneducated decision.
